Les Hewit Interview, FREE For Grab!

Another great interviews by FinerMinds.com.

This time the interviewee is Les Hewitt the co-author o the book The Power of Focus. Actually, that was quite an "old" book. I remember I bought it when I was still serving my National Service. Erm...

Never mind that, small issue. The more important thing is that you will be getting this interview for FREE, no string attached! Just head on the website and listen to the great interview on Focus : The Secret Skill of The Sharpest Minds for yourself.

When I was writing this blog post, I was thinking how should I be introducing Les Hewitt and the content about his interview. However, the more I think about it, the more I think it is unnecessary.

The reason is very simple. If you are already interested, you will be motivated enough to click on the link above to find out more. If not, then I guess no matter what I say about the interview, how great or how wonderful it is, you will still not be inclined to listen to the audio.

Firstly, if you have been a loyal reader of this blog, you should know by now that this blog is written with issues such as personal development in mind.

Yup, I do not deny the fact that sometimes I rant quite a lot on this blog (hey, this is my blog afterall right!), however I do make sure that all my complaints and rants are kept to the minimum.

Instead, I seek to provide useful information for all my readers, and that includes you! If you have yet to notice, most of the issues presented here are very related to personal development stuffs.

Therefore, when you read this blog, I am assuming that you are someone who also view self education as an important part of your life.

Just recently I had a personal survey with the people around me and I was quite surprised they actually read less than 5 books a year! Not a day, not a week, neither is it a month, but a YEAR!

Now, I am not referring to those text books or technical books you have to read in order to pass your examinations or do your work.

The books which I am talking about are personal development books. Books which serve to let you know yourself better, how to better control your emotions, thinking etc.

Some people claim that they do not like to read, like my gf! Humph... Therefore, if you were like her, audios and videos may suit you better than just plain reading.

Though personally I still prefer to read than listen. At least when I read, all the words are already on the paper, I do not need to take additional notes, unless I want to. However when I listen to audios or videos, I have to take the extra time and effort to take notes, more troublesome in my opinion, unless there is free transcript of the interview, which will be great!

Do what works best for you. At least do something!

"Formal education gets you a living while self education gets you a life."
~Jim Rohn, The Twelve Pillars of Success~

The best is to merge reading with listening and that is what I am doing.

Also, remember that plain listening and reading will not do you any good. To know and not to know is to not to know. Or

"Knowledge without action is useless. Action without knowledge is dangerous"
~Lao Tzu~

And since you already know what this blog is about (self improvement), then isn't it time to take some actions now to start changing your life and the lives of your beloved ones for the better?

Are You Neglecting Your Life? Or Parts of Them?

These past few days, I was listening to an audio on how to build great relationship with your love partner. Nope, not your sex partner I'm taking about here but your romance partner, though he/she can be the same person. ^^

Now if you are thinking, "Why in the hell would you want to listen to such audio?", the answer is actually very simple. Like many people out there, I want to become a better romance partner. Nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of.

The fact is everyone urge to be loved. However, how many of us are really a good lover to start with? Is it fair to ask others to do something which we cannot even achieve ourselves?

"The golden rule states "Do unto other what you want others to do unto you".

That is to say, if you expect something from another person, first offer what you wanted to him/her first.

Thus, if you are not able to deliver what you want, it gives you no right to demand that from other people, isn't it?

And my question here is, are you learning to become a better lover each day? Too often than not, we have put too much emphasis on only skills which can improve our productivity at work while neglecting other more important life skills which make us a better person as a whole. Are you guilty of that too?

No amount of success you achieved in an area of your life can make up for your failure in another. What you want to achieve is not successes in just a few areas of your life but in all areas of your life.

How many people when lying on their deathbed wished that they had spent more time in the office, working? Not one!!

And even having said so, are you currently taking actions to change that?
  • What steps are you taking to ensure that you have a thriving relationship with your loved one?
  • What habits do you want to change for the better?
  • What are the words should you be saying more or less?
  • Are you expected to carry out more concrete actions to display your love for the other party?
No man is perfect, so save yourself the time and effort from trying. Perfection is not what you want to go for in life, excellence is.

What you seek here is not to become a perfect partner but an improving one.

And if you are interested in knowing more, you may want to keep a lookout for the future posts to come. I will be posting more thoughts on what I have learnt from the audio course here.

Hopefully, they may be more some help to you too. ^^

Use Different Word to Get Different Results

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way." What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it."

=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=

Both signs were saying the same thing, however, each gets very different results.

Communication gurus will tell you that it is not what you say that is important, it is how you say it. How true!

"You don't have to shout to get your point across if you use the right words."
~Harvey Mackay~

Like anything else in this world, words are also not created equally. Some words possesses greater impact than others while others are more mild for a reason.

Not only do you use words in our daily communication with one another, you also employ them when your communicate with yourself, in your self talks.

That is to say, your choice of words do have a great impact on your well being and your relationships with others.

Two sentences may mean exactly the same thing. However, the variation of your pitch, tone and the choice of words which made up your sentence will affect greatly how well your message is received by the other party.

By the same token, the quality of your self talk is as important, if not, more important than when talking to others.

Studies have shown that on average, a person have thousands of thoughts going through his/her brain everyday. That is to say, the regular receiver of your messages is none other than yourself!

Notice how much self talk you actually indulge in everyday. In most cases, you will be talking more frequently to yourself than to others. Thus, if you are not choosing your words carefully, your well being may suffer as a result.

Start taking note of your self talk today. Are you including too many of the negative words inside them? "Cannot", "Should", "Must", "Need to", "Have to" etc may need to be revised accordingly.

Words have great influence over your mental and emotion health. When you are sad or angry, try downplaying those emotions.

Instead of using words like "furious" or "depressing", replace them with less impact words like "less cheerful" or "not so happy".

Another easy way is to add a word to downplay those words that bring about negative emotions within you. Examples like "slightly", "a bit", "kind of" etc.

Like in the story above, you are not lying to yourself. You are still expressing your anger, sadness or irritation, just in a more subtle and empowering manner.

Try it for yourself. You will be really surprised by results you can achieve just by making a simple tweak in your words.

SUCCESS Or FAILURE

Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become.

Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.

Don't take the casual approach to life. Casualness leads to casualties.

Success is the study of the obvious. Everyone should take Obvious I and Obvious II in school.

It's too bad failures don't give seminars. Wouldn't that be valuable? If you meet a guy who has messed up his life for forty years, you've just got to say, "John, if I bring my journal and promise to take good notes, would you spend a day with me?"

Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are.

Success is 20% skills and 80% strategy. You might know how to read, but more importantly, what's your plan to read?

Average people look for ways of getting away with it; successful people look for ways of getting on with it.

Tony Robbins - An Empowernment Coach

Tony Robbins, one of my most aspired speaker of my life. Although I have not attended his seminar in person, YET, I have indeed invested majority of my time listening to many of his audio lessons and watched several of his seminars online.

And man, I can tell you he is one very inspiring figure. Up till now, the book which he wrote long time ago, Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within are still in print and the contents are still valid. Go to any of your local bookstores and verify it for yourself!

Although he hasn't been writing for a long time, however, his previous works are all evergreen, legal, sound and able to withstand the test of time. And talking about his work, I remembered I own both of his bestsellers, Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within.

However, a glance on my shelf, I can only see one. I have one of the book missing, Unlimited Power. That is one of the many reasons why I never really enjoy lending others my books.

Firstly, you never know if they read the book you lend them or are they just collecting dust. Secondly, you never know how they treat your book. How would you like pages to be falling out from them when you finally get them back? Thirdly, you never know if the book still exists or not?

And this particular incident proves my point. I believe I have lent someone the book long enough that I have already forgotten whom I have lent it to! And the person don't even seemed to have the courtesy to to let me know if s/he needs the book for a longer period of time or was the book already lost. As the time goes by, I think I could even forget about the existence of the book on my shelf! And that only accounts for one of my known missing books.

So, if you happen to have my books in your hands by any chances, please either return me my book/s or at least let me know they exists so I can make a note on that. Thanks in advance!

Well, enough of my blabbing. Now if you still do not know who this Anthony Robbins is and what he does to make him so successful, below are some videos for you to know him better.

I highly recommend that you spend some time listening to this guy and read some of his works. He really provides some valuable insights as to how you can better your life and also the lives of the people around you.

In fact, there is only a thin line between the happy people and the unhappy ones, the successful and wealthy people from the mediocre ones. And it is none other than knowledge! The successful and wealthy people have an abundance of knowledge on how to change their lives for the better. Even so, they recognize that the fact that the more they learn, the more you don't know. So have you starting learning now?

Understanding Why You Do What You Do

Contrary to what most people tell you, it is not what you should have done or what you are going to do that is important.

Instead, it is why you do what you do that is more significant to your . Through understanding the underlying reasons why you are behaving in a specific manner, you will get to be more empathetic, less blaming and more forgiving on your past actions and also the actions of others.

Acknowledging and understanding the big why behind your actions is just half of the story. The other half lies in your willingness to change what you had done and make out how you can do it better the next time.

Insanity is to continue doing what you have been doing and expecting a different result. Expect your life to improve? Then adopt a different thinking. It cannot be simpler than that. ^^

How Often Are You Engaged In Self Improvement?

Well, this may be a very peculiar question to many, however can you answer this question truthfully?

  • When is the last time when you last read a book on how to improve on yourself?
  • What is the last CD, DVD or seminars which you attend?
More than often, the answer which I got from the the majority of the people whom I asked is none other than "ZERO"!

"Oh gosh, who needs self improvement?" or "If self improvement really works, there won't be bad guys in this world at all!" or even "I'm happy with what I am now. I don't need to improve on myself anymore." are just some of the many answers which I receive when I asked the above questions.

Obviously, many people don't really see self improvement or personal development necessary for them. To those people, self improvement courses are for their friends, colleagues or family members to better improve themselves so that they could make their lives easier.

In other words, they are always waiting for other people to change in order for their lives to turn to the better. Other people or external circumstances are always responsible and to be blamed for what happen to them.

The answer ZERO to my above mentioned questions is surely not a well-liked number. What does the number '0' signifies? Does it mean it is not worth the time, effort and money to improve on yourself? Or does that signifies that you have already perfected your life here and there is nothing else you could ever learn from it?

Which one is easier? To change yourself or to change the thousands of millions of people around you? You are a clever person. I'm sure you know the answer.

If the number to the above question remains the same, so will your life. Change the number so will you start seeing changes in your life.
